Ice Barcelona is gearing up for its 2027 edition with a change to the exhibition layout. The show will take place from 18 to 20 January at Fira Barcelona Gran Via, and registration is now open on the official website, icegaming.com. Organiser WorldGaming has announced a new hall, Hall 7, which at 17,000 square metres will be devoted to technology, data and fintech companies in the sector.
The decision, the organisers explain, follows consultation with industry operators. The hall will host the topics that now weigh most heavily on gaming companies’ agendas: artificial intelligence, payments, compliance, cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, data management and tools for real-time customer engagement. Managing director Stuart Hunter presented the project and also announced a change of format: fewer traditional panels, and more live demonstrations, real-world case studies and interactive sessions, with the aim of giving visitors solutions they can apply in their own businesses. Hunter describes Ice Barcelona as “the place where the entire gaming value chain meets” and argues that the event sits at the intersection of gaming and technology.
On the commercial side and positioning, the picture remains the one described by the organisers. The event brings together land-based and digital gaming, lotteries, sports betting, casinos, esports and payments. The international campaign accompanying this edition is titled “Welcome to the PlayVolution” and revolves around the relationship between the industry, technological innovation and social responsibility initiatives.
To gauge the ambitions of the 2027 edition, it is worth looking at the numbers from the last one. According to figures released by WorldGaming, which states they were verified by an independent audit, World Gaming Week 2026 drew 62,988 professionals from 162 countries, up 5% on the 59,939 recorded in 2025. Ice welcomed 51,996 visitors (up 4%), while iGB Affiliate counted 10,992 (up 11%). Visitation, the overall count of visitor days, reached 120,439, a 9% increase year on year.
By country of origin, Spain leads with 10,209 attendees, followed by the United Kingdom (5,999), Malta (3,187), Cyprus (2,628) and Ukraine (2,512). Further behind are Poland (2,247) and the United States (1,568). Italy ranks eighth with 1,353 participants, ahead of Germany (1,165) and Bulgaria (1,076).
